Sharing the best place to stay in San Diego California, the Kona Kai Resort. This trip was full of beautiful views, and delicious dining. As well as fun activities we were able to go and do being only minutes away from our resort. Here I will share our experience while visiting San Diego. Along with why I think the Kona Kai Resort is easily the best place to Stay In San Diego California.
Beautiful San Diego has always been one of my favorite spots to get away. Not only is the history splendid as well as the perfect 70 degree weather. But also, there are some fun things to know about San Diego that I thought I would share.
Did you know…???
San Diego is praised for its idyllic climate, with it’s 70 miles of pristine beaches and a dazzling array of world-class family attractions. San Diego has it all such as the world-famous San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park, Sea World, and LEGOLAND California. Another go to spot when you are visiting is Balboa Park, being the largest cultural park in America. San Diego is is home to 15 museums, numerous art galleries, beautiful gardens, and the Tony Award-winning The Globe Theaters.
San Diego is located in the South West corner of California, south from the city of Los Angeles and only 20 miles North of Tijuana, Mexico. Trip to Mexico anyone? Okay, lets take a stroll!
It is known to be the EIGHTH LARGEST city in the United States with a whopping 1.38 million residents. With the comfortable and small town atmosphere you would never guess this until you experience good San Diego traffic.
Cole and I were only able to visit San Diego for two days so we chose to spend most of our time enjoying the beach but I would love to go back again now that I know of the rich history of this beautiful city.
Before we left I had to pack my beach essentials. Whats some beach time without some Maui Babe tanning lotion? If you are a white girl like me and struggle getting a little healthy bronzed color, you need to try this! I swear this is Hawaii’s best kept secret for beautiful golden glowing skin. Although, please use this at your own risk and apply only as needed as it is important to be smart and stay safe in the sun.
After long days spent being fishes at the beach nothing was better than coming back to our beautiful suite at the Kona Kai Resort, located at the tip of Shelter Island. When we first walked in to the resort we were both in awe of the fun and fresh ambiance and the casual elegance. The fun bright colors, high vaulted ceilings, big gorgeous windows, along with the beautiful chandeliers and lighting really make for an inviting space. Not to mention the front desk and valet staff were very friendly and accommodating.
After checkin, we then entered our beautiful Junior Suite which had been newly renovated and was so DREAMY. I didn’t know which I enjoyed more, waking up to splendid views overlooking the Bay or waking up in this comfiest and most beautiful King bed with a head board that I wanted to somehow pack in my suit case and take home with me.
If waking up to the sunrise isn’t enough to make you swoon, how about watching the boats set sail amongst the prestine bay waters? The views at the Kona Kai are like no other, making you feel as if you are in a fairytale.
One of my favorite parts of the whole experience would definitely have to be spending a few hours relaxing and enjoying the Spa Terre at Kona Kai. I was the first appointment in the morning so I was able to lounge in the quite room by myself for a few minutes before my treatment. I tried the 80 minute signature facial and I absolutely LOVED it. If you are looking for a facial service that is great for anti aging, acne, hyper-pigmentation, and if you are a person that loves a good face, neck, arm, and shoulder massage, I would not recommend that you try anything else because this will leave your skin glowing and leave you feeling completely relaxed.
If you want to take your facial to the next level, go into the steam room after your service. Not only is this great to help the moisturizing ingredients from your facial seep deep into your skin, but my esthetician gave me a hair mask to wear as well. I found that combination of the hair mask and steam treatment made my hair silky- smooth after I washed it out and I was LOVING it.
This is the quite room at the Kona Kai Resort and Spa. Here we were able to take advantage of the variety of delicious teas and treats. They also provide magazines to help you relax before you are picked up for your service.
Cole and I loved lazing by by the beautiful pool area which was the perfect morning treat before we went to the beach.
In addition to remarkable views of the water and the Kona Kai Marina, you will be surrounded by lush gardens and a sandy beach. Don’t forget to take advantage of the poolside service and incredible food menu to make your experience complete.
It was such a treat to just relax poolside with my sweetheart amongst the beautiful scenic views from every angle.
Nothing is more gorgeous or romantic than watching the golden sunset reflect against the water. This was our view at dinner and we could not believe how lucky we were to experience this together
The Best Place to Stay In San Diego California Calls For The Best Dining
The absolute BEST part of this trip would definitely have to be our experience dining at the Vessel Restaurant. When you think of a romantic beach dining escape with exquisite views, this is it!
We asked to eat outside because it was such a beautiful night. We also really wanted to take advantage of the views overlooking the Marina. The service was exceptionally great and the manager Sean was absolutely wonderful.
We were able to experience trying a variety of tasty dishes made by some of the best chefs in San Diego. From a selection of appetizers to side dishes, along with a variety of main courses and desserts. Needless to say we were stuffed afterwards but we both easily agreed that it was definitely some of the best food that we have ever tasted. The Vessel will not disappoint my friends!
Coles favorite main dish was the pork chop with a mustard parsley spaetzle, upland cress, caramelized cipollini, along with an amazing sour cherry glaze. Sean the manager, told us that it was marinated for three days to achieve the mouthwatering flavor. It was literally heaven. My favorite was definitely the Key Lime Pie with a cashew graham crust and a raspberry, chantilly cream. We usually try to eat pretty healthy at home so we didn’t even feel bad because this food was FANTASTIC and seriously worth every extra calorie.
The Best Things to Do While Visiting San Diego
One of the best parts about staying at the Kona Kai, was the available activities. Hot spots, and fun locations are located just by the resort, making travel super convenient. This was a huge bonus for us. Just another reason why Kona Kai is the best Place to Stay In San Diego California.
The next morning we woke up and decided to grab a bite to eat and walk around the San Diego Gem, Seaport Village. Seaport village is a charming little spot full of waterfront shopping, dining and live entertainment. It Includes 54 one of a kind shops, 13 casual dining eateries, 4 fine dining waterfront restaurants, and is only a ten minute drive from the Kona Kai. The cobblestone pathways are bordered by beautiful ponds, lakes, fountains and colorful, lush landscaping.
If you love cute beach shops along with fun live entertainment than you will fall in love with Seaport Village! Here you will find a talented group of street performers and artisans such as caricaturists, face painters, balloon sculptors, and oriental brush artists. Three words, TAKE-ME-BACK!
What is trip to Seaport Village without a Ben and Jerry’s ice cream cone? Well the answer is simple, INCOMPLETE. Ben and Jerry’s is a must!
To make your cravings worse the Fudge Factory is next door and an adorable gourmet cupcake shop is across the way. Decisions, decisions..
Coronado Beach Located Just Minutes Away From the Kona Kai Resort
To end our trip we decided to spend a long day at the beautiful Coronado Beach. I have always wanted to come see Hotel Coronado. This is because my mother in law has a beautiful large painting of Hotel Coronado in her basement and I have always thought it looked like such lovely place to be. So it was fun to actually experience this gem of a location for ourselves.
The Coronado Beach runs along Ocean Boulevard with a back drop of fine homes and mansions and of course the famous Hotel Coronado. We took a long nap on the beach and enjoyed every bit of the warm sand. Since we live in Utah, we took advantage of ALL of the beach time we could get. The only thing that we were disappointed with was that we literally had to hunt for food and you would think that a beach town like this would have restaurants or food joints left and right, but this was not the case at Coronado Beach.
We will never forget our San Diego getaway and experience at the Kona Kai resort. The Best Place to Stay In San Diego California, is easily the Kona Kai Resort. If you ever get a chance to visit San Diego I would highly recommend staying at the Kona Kai Resort. What are you waiting for? Plan a trip, and take advantage of all of the many activities and attractions that San Diego has to offer.
Our tans will fade, but our memories will last forever.
